Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh from AIT is a member of the science panel of the Asia Pacific Clean Air Partnership (APCAP). She has 35 years working experience in research, education, consultancy and capacity building and is internationally recognized for her work on air pollution and climate in Asia. She has focused on providing a better characterization of air pollution issues in Asian developing countries through field measurements, emission inventory and modelling studies at urban, national and regional scales. She has published 2 books (ed.), 110 international peer-reviewed scientific papers and 50 book chapters, and over 50 important development reports. With her extensive experience and professional networking capacity she has conducted, as PI or Co-PI, over 50 regional collaboration research projects. As of 2021, she has graduated 190 Master and 16 Ph D AIT students who are now working in over 20 countries in Asia and beyond.  

Prof. Kim Oanh is recognized in the top 2% globally most cited scientists in 2021 in the field of “Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences”, according to the report of “Composite Citation Metrics” by Elsevier BV Netherlands and Stanford University, released in August 2021. She got a number of awards and prizes, including international best journal paper awards, recognitions from Better Air Quality Conferences, the distinguished senior research leader award by AIT. She was a Fogarty Research scholar on her sabbaticals at the University of Washington in Seattle and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA (2004), and a visiting professor at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, Germany (2012).
