Dr Toan Du is a principal researcher and the head of Marine and Climate Science Department at Vietnam Institute of Seas and Islands (VISI), Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands (VASI), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE). He is also a visiting/invited lecturer at other universities and institutes. He has been doing research in marine renewable energy and management policy for more than 30 years. His research expertise includes marine sciences, oceanography, climate change, natural resources and environment, marine economy, and marine spatial planning. Dr Toan Du is lead author/co-author of number of book chapters, technical journal and conference papers and articles in his fields of expertise. He has participated in research projects as a team leader and/or contributor and collaborated with other institutions and universities. He was the local consultant for the World Bank research project “Offshore wind roadmap for Viet Nam 2020 - 2050”, which is very important for Vietnam national marine economy and offshore wind development strategy. He was senior consultant for marine spatial planning of South Marine Area of Ninh Thuan province that included offshore wind energy development.  In 2016 – 2019, he lead MONRE/MOST’s research projects in analysis of wave energy, marine current energy and tidal energy in Viet Nam sea.  In 2015 – 2016, he was a national consultant for UNDP/IMO project on prevention of pollution from ships through the adoption of  Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas (PSSAs) within South-East Asia.
