Plenary Session, Energy Economics and Policy Seminar’s Inaugural Cohort 2021

On July 5, 2021, YSEALI Academy welcomed 35 Fellows of Energy Economic & Policy Seminar, the very first cohort of Fellows enrolled under YSEALI Academy. Prof Le Vu Quan, Director of YSEALI Academy, greeted the new class with a brief introduction of the skill sets and knowledge that they are going to explore. He also stressed that the aim of the two-week Public Policy seminar on Energy Economics and Policy is to provide training on mainstream and emerging energy technologies in Southeast Asia, and key macroeconomic and policy tools for analyzing and impacting these trends.  

Followed that was the Welcoming Remarks by Madam Dam Bich Thuy, President of Fulbright University Vietnam. Madam Thuy encouraged the Fellows to be ready to harness their learning and grow larger to meet challenges of the country, region, and globe. The Fellows were also welcomed by Ms. Wendy R. Sherman, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, with her remarks about the role of YSEALI Academy in building the leadership capabilities of youth in the region and strengthening ties between the United States and Southeast Asia while nurturing an ASEAN community. 

The session also presented the keynote speaker - Dr. Pham Thai Lai, President and CEO of Siemens ASEAN. Dr. Lai had a great and engaging discussion with YSEALI Fellows about energy economics and policy.
