On Southeast Asia’s economic integration amid global turbulence

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam—The YSEALI Academy at Fulbright University Vietnam (hereinafter the YSEALI Academy) officially announced the launch of its Public Policy Seminar titled “Southeast Asia’s economic integration amid global turbulence”. The seminar will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from January 9 to 13, 2023. This seminar is now open for applications until November 14, 2022.

Launched in 2020, the YSEALI Academy’s main mission is to build capacity and enhance leadership skills for young professionals ages 25-40 from across Southeast Asia and Timor-Leste. To realize the mission, the YSEALI Academy implements a wide range of activities, including four flagship seminars on Public Policy, Technology & Innovation and Entrepreneurship each year.

The 2023 Public Policy Seminar on Southeast Asia’s economic integration amid global turbulence is a 1-week in-person seminar pre-ceeded by online engagement sessions. The seminar gears towards young professionals who are passionate about tackling global and regional issues, and willing to sharpen their skills to do so.

Over the past several years, Southeast Asia has been dramatically hit by global headwinds: the great power confrontation, the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain disruption, recent global conflicts, and worldwide tension of energy, inflation, and economic uncertainty. What should Southeast Asian policymakers, organizations and businesses do? How do the multilateral arrangements (both intra and extra) of Southeast Asia including multiple FTAs, CP-TPP and RCEP help? With the theme of “Southeast Asia’s economic integration amid global turbulence”, the 2023 YSEALI Academy Public Policy Seminar aims at answering those questions, expanding YSEALI Academy fellows’ knowledge and skills of topics related to economic integration in Southeast Asia, both intra- and extra-regional, that can be applied in their careers. It will also contribute to building a network with other Southeast Asian professionals for future collaboration in public affairs, including economic development.

The combination of online engagement sessions and a week-long in-person seminar/workshops will be intensive and comprehensive, offering fellows the state of the art and useful knowledge of how Southeast Asia’s economic integration, both internal and external, could navigate or even ride the global headwinds. A synergy of lectures by world-renown scholars, panel discussions, leadership training, field trips and team projects in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, will provide a unique opportunity for young leaders to think, learn, and practice new knowledge and skills for a turbulent world with global and regional challenges.

The 2023 Public Policy Seminar on Southeast Asia’s economic integration amid global turbulence will be opened to candidates who are young professionals between the ages of 25-40, highly qualified and motivated, from all 10 ASEAN member countries and Timor-Leste. Once selected, all participants will be fully funded by the U.S. Department of State to attend the seminar.
