With diverse approaches, these individuals showcased a shared commitment to making a lasting impact across ASEAN. From addressing sanitation issues and empowering women through education to preserving coral reefs, their stories shed light on the transformative power of entrepreneurship.
Jack Sim (Mr. Toilet):
Founder of the Restroom Association of Singapore and the World Toilet Organization, Jack Sim highlighted the significance of prioritizing mission over personal recognition. He emphasized collaboration and storytelling as powerful tools to garner support and make a large-scale impact. Drawing from successful models, he encouraged entrepreneurs to learn, improve, and drive positive change.
Trinh Huynh (Bong Sen Centre):
Trinh Huynh's Bong Sen Centre aims to empower girls in rural areas by tackling educational inequality. Sharing her personal experience, she underscored the transformative power of education in breaking the cycle of poverty. Trinh highlighted the importance of providing educational opportunities to girls, enabling them to shape their futures and promote gender equality.
Tasya Karissa (Biorock Indonesia):
Tasya Karissa, leading Biorock Indonesia, brought attention to the urgent need for action to protect coral reefs. She emphasized the detrimental effects of unsustainable practices, such as harvesting live corals for souvenirs and relying on artificial structures for restoration. Tasya shared her personal journey and the challenges faced in attempting to save coral reefs, emphasizing the importance of genuine restoration efforts. She cautioned against prioritizing media attention over actual impact and advocated for a shift towards social enterprises and collaborative approaches to address the vast scale of coral conservation.
The panel discussion also featured a lively Q&A session, where fellow participants had the opportunity to engage with the panelists. Questions ranged from strategies for scaling impact to overcoming obstacles in their respective fields. The interactive Q&A session provided valuable insights and sparked meaningful discussions among the panelists and attendees.
Together, these ASEAN impact entrepreneurs exemplify the spirit of driving positive change.
