Second meet-up with our Fellows: Final steps before the Seminar

On the 20th of May 2022, YSEALI Academy wrapped up its pre-seminar activities with the second ‘Meet the Fellows’ virtual event. 

After the first pre-seminar meeting on the 13th of May, this meeting’s goal was to engage Fellows with their future teammates and create opportunities for deeper discussion about the upcoming seminar. If the last meeting had successfully broken the ice between Fellows with exciting fun facts about each person, this second pre-seminar event started to build a stronger relationship among Fellows. 

In this second pre-seminar event, the YSEALI Academy Team help Fellows understand how the Learning Management System (LMS) called Canvas works and how they can access all relevant materials during the seminar. This is an important part of the seminar, because the LMS is an all-in-one hub of information for participants: records of lectures, pre-reading materials, team projects, … 

Since the Team Project is the cornerstone of the seminar, Fellows are encouraged to talk to their teammates to have a better understanding of how they will address the given topic. 35 Fellows were divided into 7 teams with a mix of nationalities and genders in each group to ensure that Fellows get a multicultural and inclusive experience. 

One important announcement of this event was the guidance on the Culture Show. Culture Show is the time for Fellows to introduce their culture and cultural identities to Fellows from neighboring countries. This helps Fellows better understand the cultural diversity within the region and also foster stronger mutual understanding for better Team Project collaboration.

Fellows were then divided into break-out rooms, but this time by their countries. We had a total of 11 rooms representing 11 Southeast Asian nations. Thanks to the help of talented volunteers from Fulbright University Vietnam, Fellows felt better supported and were able to initiate better conversation with other Fellows. 

After this final pre-seminar event, Fellows will have about 1 week until the official launch of the Technology and Innovation Seminar on “The Digitization of Trust” happening on 30 May 2022.
